Monument to COVID-19 inaugurated in Maputo

The Carlos Morgado Foundation inaugurates the Monument to COVID-19 with artistic murals to celebrate the victims of the pandemic in Mozambique.

In the presence of the President of the Municipal Council of Maputo City, Mr. Eneas Comiche, representative of the Irish Embassy, Ms. Paula Nolan and the co-founder of the Carlos Morgado Foundation, Mr. Bruno, Morgado and guests including family members of victims of the pandemic, the project was inaugurated which includes: 1) access staircase between Av. da Marginal and Av. Julius Nyerere; 2) contemplative and cultural spaces; 3) monochromatic artistic mural; 4) mural with portraits of victims of the pandemic.

The portraits were voluntarily collected in previous months by the victims' relatives. The intention of the Monument to COVID-19 is to celebrate the lives of these Mozambicans who are no longer with us.

The space adjacent to the Irish Embassy, on Av. Julius Nyerere in Maputo, has always been a forgotten space. With a staircase, already built, that connects to Av. from Marginal, the Monument to COVID-19 hopes to be an urban rescue project.
