MAPUTO - On June 30, 2020, the Carlos Morgado Foundation signed a agreement with UNESCO for the implementation of the project entitled “Enhancing network, knowledge and exchange capacity among creative agents in Mozambique.”
The creative industries in Mozambique still suffer from weak institutional and political support, from vague and ineffective regulatory structures (for example, copyright), low levels of entrepreneurial capacity and low added value among creative agents.
The project “Enhancing network, knowledge and exchange capacity among creative agents in Mozambique”, lasting a year and a half, aims to 1) strengthening network through online platform, 2) providing knowledge through capacity building to artists and cultural practitioners and 3) fostering exchange through mobility programs. The project was developed, and will be implemented, by a consortium between the Carlos Morgado Foundation, ANIMA Estúdio Criativo, IDEIALAB and CRIAMOZ.
The expected, but not limited, results and description of the corresponding activities are as follows:
Output 1 - Networks are strengthened through online platform
• Activity 1.1: Develop a brand design, marketing strategy and implementation plan
• Activity 1.2: Organize meet-ups for partner engagement, network, fundraising and mapping
• Activity 1.3: Develop an ICT platform to facilitate mapping of creative industries
Output 2 - Knowledge is provided through capacity building to artists and cultural professionals
• Activity 2.1: Run workshops on different topics including on entrepreneurship and innovation, project and organizational management, digital and financial literacy, inclusivity and personal development
• Activity 2.2: Organize talks to a wider creative community, to promote access to knowledge in innovative areas (such as digital technologies in the creative sector) and exchange of ideas
• Activity 2.3: Facilitate mentoring relationships to accelerate creative businesses
• Activity 2.4: Design and publish digital toolkit to share lessons learned and to contribute to decision making among relevant government entities and cultural agents
Output 3 - Exchange is fostered through mobility programs, including digital participation
• Activity 3.1: Support regional mobility, in and out of Mozambique, to stimulate knowledge exchange and access to market
• Activity 3.2: Support national mobility, across Mozambique, to stimulate exchange, access to market and inclusivity of overlooked cultural producers
• Activity 3.3: Support marketplaces, to provide more visibility and access to market to creative entrepreneurs, including overlooked creative entrepreneurs
• Activity 3.4. Support internship and volunteering opportunities, for on the job training and strengthening host´s capacity

CRIAMOZ, a Mozambican creative cooperative established in 2017, is an organization of producers, sellers, exporters of products from the creative industries. The cooperative provides contextual solutions, and redefines the traditional exchange between the market and creators, supporting the exchange of knowledge between the different actors in the sector.
