Residents of Mangunze, Chongoene District, Gaza province, "received" a Solar Giraffe last Tuesday to charge their cell phones.
MANGUNZE – Solar Giraffe, is also a space where the community gets together to listen to music, information and discuss the district and country issues.
Speaking moments after the inauguration, the District Administrator, Carlos Buchili, said that "it is a project that will have a very big impact, if we consider that this locality of Mangunze we do not have energy from the national grid, and one of the alternatives that the Government uses they are the solar panels. And this project exactly brings this clean energy, renewable energy and that our population has the possibility to charge phones, listen to the radio and in short it is a space for sharing ideas ".
The promoter of the project, the Carlos Morgado Foundation, represented by Ruben Morgado, revealed that this is an initiative that had been underway for a long time, and that it was only possible with the funding of the Embassy of Ireland, represented at the ceremony by Embaxadora Nuala O 'Brien, worth 400,000 meticais.
Ruben Morgado, said that in the Solar Giraffe, only cell phones should be charged, and called on the population of Mangunze to maintain and preserve the equipment.
The population of Mangunze, who is the main beneficiary of the Solar Giraffe project, was quite satisfied with the initiative, and thanked the funders and the local church priest who has done a lot for the development of that community.
"This project is welcomed to the Mission of São Benedito de Mangunze because it will help our brothers who have difficulties in charging the phone in their homes, because this solar panel story is not just anyone who has it, and it will help a lot. I think it is a huge leap for the people of Mangunze. Sometimes people came to Mass on Sundays and everyone went with the phone and wanted to be the first to charge in the church ", said one of the residents of Mangunze.
Solar Giraffe was installed in the catholic church site, Missão de São Benedito de Mangunze. Residents also ask for the installation of a bank branch, since to find a bank they are "forced" to travel about 18km to the village of Manjakaze.
