The camp was organized by Still Standing and the Mozambican Minibasquete Committee, in partnership with the Foundation Carlos Morgado, and sponsored by Matola Gas Company, in São Vicente de Paulo Community School between 16 and 21 January 2017.
The camp included dance and musical instruments workshops, developed by Timbila Muzimba, mini basket games and workout circuits. During this week, there was also referee and judges training. On the last day, the Mozambican Association for Renewable Energy did a workshop on recycling, producing solar ovens. These ovens were donated to the Mangudze mission in the Gaza province.
Before the summer camp, there were improvements made to the sports venue including the floor, painting, waste removal, fence repairs, among others.
This event gathered 275 children aged between 6 to 11 that for the duration of the event engaged in different activities from their usual routine in a safe space where they had the opportunity to form new bonds, learn new activities, perfect their talents in a fun and playful way.
The “Carlos Morgado summer camp” is organized during school holidays, to occupy the children’s free time, and besides the fun activities it is an opportunity to learn good citizenship: Respect for the elders and others, character, friendship, cultural identity, group work, positive attitude, leadership, integrity and healthy habits.
Tropigalia and the Mozambican Association of Renewable energies also supported this event.
